Crown attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. Later, in 1980, he graduated from Stanford Law School with a Juris Doctorate.

Crown began his professional career as an associate at Salomon Brothers in New York City after finishing his law degree. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a vice president of the Capital Markets Service Group by 1983.

One of Crown’s notable achievements was his role as chairman of the Commercial Club of Chicago Civic Committee’s public safety task force in June 2023. His contributions and leadership were highly regarded within the committee.
